Kepler Guest Observer Program

Guest Observer Proposal Preparation

Kepler has a broad bandpass ranging 4,300−9,000Å. Target magnitudes (Kepler magnitudes) stored within the Kepler Input Catalog (KIC) are based upon color corrections to the Kepler bandpass. To calculate an approximate Kepler magnitude (mkep) from Tycho B and V magnitudes, use the following relation:

Definition of Kepler magnitude (mkep):
  1. bkep = 0.54B + 0.46V - 0.07
  2. vkep = -0.44B + 1.44V + 0.12
  3. bkep - vkep ≤ 0.8:
           mkep = 0.2bkep + 0.8vkep
  4. bkep - vkep > 0.8:
           mkep = 0.1bkep + 0.9vkep
